The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the United States announced the winners of all the awards for the year 2024 on March 29. Congratulations to the students from GAAC who received awards this year, with a total of 71 winning entries, including 16 gold keys, 21 silver keys, and 34 honourable mentions.
According to the data collected by GAAC teachers over, this year, not only did we achieve a new record in terms of historical awards, but we also secured the highest number of awards in the province of BC for the fifth consecutive year. We can't help but feel proud and proud of our students.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the oldest and most influential youth art and cultural competition in the United States. Each year, over 330,000 entries from students in grades 7 to 12 compete in approximately 29 categories of art and writing. The judging panel, comprised of prominent figures in the art industry, selects regional and national awards.
Since its establishment in 1923, many recipients of the Gold Key in this competition have gone on to become world-renowned artists and writers, including renowned mystery novelist Stephen King and the influential contemporary artist Andy Warhol.
GAAC Awards Situation
GAAC finally received good news at the end of March. Congratulations to all the GAAC students who received the awards. At the same time, we would like to special congratulate Kelly, Salina, and Brian, who not only received Gold Key awards in the fields of fashion design and illustration, qualifying for the second round of competition for the Gold and Silver Medals, but also received nominations for the American Visions Award. Each region nominates separately, with only five students' works nominated nationwide in Canada, and three students from the Green Apple Art Center have received nominations for this award. In the final medal announcement in June, judges will select one student from the five finalists to receive the award and be invited to New York for the ceremony.
Every year, thousands of students, schools, and art institutions participate, but the probability of winning is quite low. Through years of accumulation, Green Apple has once again become the school with the most awards in BC province. To date, GAAC has received a total of 95 gold keys, 153 silver keys, 185 honorable mentions, as well as 12 gold medals and 13 silver medals. Additionally, several Green Apple instructors involved in teaching have repeatedly been honored with the "Gold Medal Teacher" award and the title of "Outstanding Educator."
Furthermore, according to our data, the winning works of students from the Green Apple Art Center are distributed across various major fields, such as architecture, painting, illustration, printmaking, photography, sculpture, multimedia, and fashion.
Unearth the Top Creative Talents Among Young People
The original purpose of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the United States is to provide a platform for creatively talented young people from around the world to showcase their works, gain recognition, and offer them opportunities for scholarships, publication, and participation in major exhibitions. It aims to help them achieve a higher starting point in their future artistic endeavours.
All submissions to this national-level art competition undergo initial regional judging, including the categories of Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honourable Mention. The Gold Key recipients from each region have a selection rate of less than 5% and then advance to the national-level judging, competing for the less than 1% of national-level art gold and silver medals.
Moreover, after the competition, a star-studded awards ceremony is held in New York, inviting professionals in the field of art and design for exchange and guidance, while also paying tribute to hundreds of students and teachers.
The competition offers nearly $250,000 in scholarships to award-winning students each year. Winners not only receive recognition at the annual awards ceremony held at Carnegie Hall in New York but also have their artworks exhibited across the United States as part of the ART.WRITE.NOW Tour. In this journey, over 600 pieces of artwork from national award recipients are showcased.
The project includes two exhibitions throughout the year. The Academic Art and Writing Award winners' exhibition begins in August and rotates every two to three months, providing valuable opportunities for educational professionals who wish to showcase student works. It also adds glory to the resumes of exceptionally talented young creators.
